I bit disappointed with the results, I keep hearing how R Chop is like salt on snow in getting rid of this type of cancer and how people see lumps shrink almost before their eyes, well my mass although has got smaller by 4cm it still leaves a mass of over 6cm behind and I am half way through my treatment.  I know I said previously that I was worried if my treatment was working as my hair has being growing back and still is, so lots of things going through my head at the moment.

  • Hi , I am possibly one of the people who said that saw/felt their mass shrink before my eyes.....

I had a mass in my neck that was the size of a brick = 21cm x 10cm x 7cm......so had a lot of tissue to go down...... by mid treatment my mass was still only just over half down so still work to do - the thing that sticks in my mind was my gums were covering my teeth and over the first 12 hrs treatment my gums receded sufficiently for me to feel my teeth.....

But it took the full accumulative effects of my 6 cycles to do the complete job on my mass.

The fact that you have made this progress is testament to the treatment working....... I have talked with others over the years who had to have their treatment changed very quickly as no real progress was being made.

It is a mind game....... you need to hold your nerve and as long as your team are pleased with progress you need to be as well ((hugs))

  • Hi Verity

The fact it is shrinking is the important bit

I had still some mass showing at the end of my cycles but a PET scan a few weeks later showed the cancer was no longer active.

While R Chop seems to be a favorite choice of treatment if your team thought it was not working they have an arsenal of other treatments   they can call up.

I'm sorry but setbacks and lots of waiting are part of the journey

  • Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply, wow that must have been really difficult for you and I am so glad it all worked for you.

The thing is my consultant is not overly communicative and I have only seen him a couple of times once prior to treatment and once during, I have obviously seen a doctor prior to each treatment but they didn't say they were please it was just stated it was going in the right direction. So I read all sorts of things into that.

Anyway as you say and have said a lot of the battle is between the ears.

    Take care,

    Verity

  • Hi Garfield,

Thanks it is always helpful when you hear that people like yourself still had some mass showing and are now well, it helps with staying positive and confident that you are going to beat this and get on with life.

  • My unit has a few consultants so I get a range of levels of conversations.

Based on my many years experience “going in the right direction” for some of the less communicative consultants means that treatment is on target and no change in.the treatment plan is required….. if they would only say this as it would remover folks mind in overdrive that you are experiencing.

Do you have a SCN you can call and talk this through?

Yes my presentation got very scary for a time but it’s a memory now and you will be thinking the same further down the line ((Hugs))

  • Hi Verity

i only had a partial response at my mid way scan, I was disheartened as you read about lots of people being cancer clear mid way, however at my final scan I was told complete remission.

    Stay positive x
