good afternoon everyone,
next week i am booked for first brachytherapy and i am very frightened, it sounds terrible,
i've had one successful spinal epidural and one failed,
i've have had two hysteroscopies where uterine access failed, and the brachy apparently has to go there too.
in my mind i understand the treatment has to happen, but it's really scaring me.
i've had chemo and radiotherapy and coped well thankfully.
But, has anyone got reassuring thoughts for me about the brachy, please?
I had four treatments. Oh City were lovely weren’t they ?. I had to go into QMC after discharge from city, in Nottingham, and it was a world away from City, really not nice at all !
Hi greenlady13,
Reading many experiences over the years, the experiences varies depending on the person physiology and the type of brachytherapy that you are about to have. I was one of the few unlucky ones speaking with my consultant she advised me that the epidural is better managing pain after the insertion of the applicator compared to the general anaesthesia. Looking back I would advise you to be vocal with pain killers even if it is a couple of hours intervals ( I was not so I was very uncomfortable). I would not sugar coat my experience it was not the best but the benefits out-weight any pain. Good luck with the treatment!
Thank you for that. In the end my first Brachy was done under g a, due to other reasons.
removal was briefly painful (wowzers!) but i was pleasantly surprised how effective morphine was.
Hi there, first Brachy done. Second due this Thursday.
cannot fault any of the City staff from ground up.
I don't know if this will work to update thread, but i had my second and third brachytherapy treatments and was again under general and went the same way as first. After care was great as before, but i became ill from virus and that was unpleasant (bowels!). I am now waiting for the scans in May/June to see what's changed.
