hi Im beside myself...ultrasound showed an odd shaped cervix and when gp had a look she said cervix was enlarged...has anyone else had this...good or bad i would like to know and what were the outcomes?

Please please please answer as 1 person replied to my last thread xx

  • Hi again

I’m sorry I was the only person to answer in your last thread, but my answer here will bump this post for you.

We can all only speak about our own experiences, so it may be that no-one has been told they have an enlarged cervix and what that may mean. For example I never had any ultrasound scans as part of my diagnostic process and it may be that others have not had one either so haven’t been able to reply.

i understand how hard the waiting is-we all do-but you need to wait for your appointment to find out more, and remember that your situation may be different to others if you do get replies so you cannot assume you would have the same outcome as anyone else.

    Sarah xx

  • Hi Ddd123, im sorry to read how understandably worried you are and that after your GP appointment and ultrasound you have been left with lots of worry and distress as to what the comments that have been made by health professionals could mean for you.

I had an ultrasound as a first step too,i had been loosing large amounts of blood and passing very large clots (they fitted nicely in the palm of my hand!!!!!)  - the person completing the ultrasound made no indication as to what they had seen on the screen and i left feeling relatively relaxed - it was subsequently i was called by my gp that the cervix had looked suspicious on the US and i was put on the two week referral pathway.

In this wait period i did my best not to think of the what ifs etc, i did not go anywhere near google and only came to forums like this post treatment. The only people who can tell you what is going on are the health professionals, they are the experts, yes the waiting is difficult but my best advice is to try and keep calm, keep busy and if you have overwhelming thoughts reassure yourself that you are in the best hands, and whatever is wrong they will be there to help you.

My ultrasound would have shown a 5cm cancerous tumour where my cervix should have been that was locally advanced. I had treatment for this at the end of 2023 which was successful

thinking of you, and hoping your appointment comes through quickly so you have a date to focus on

    best wishes

  • Thank you so much for replying.....I'm on double pill and have been for years. The nurse tried to reduce me to 1 and I bled again so back up to 2.

    Now my cervix is enlarged....

I'm the worst person in the world to have to wait . I'm already on anxiety meds as I am an anxious person...I'm just worried now the pill has been masking it.

It's very reassuring to hear you were treated and it was a success.

Thankyou so much for replying xx

  • Hi

The waiting is tough - it’s difficult not to let your mind go into overdrive. I found that keeping myself as busy as possible while I was waiting for appointments to try to focus on other things worked best for me.

You’ve asked for other people’s experiences with ultrasound following bleeding so here’s my individual experience…

I started with an ultrasound after I’d mentioned to my GP about my periods being really heavy (which I’d assumed was perimenopause as I’m in my 40s and I only casually mentioned during an appointment for something else so well done to my GP for picking up on this and acting on it in the first place).

The ultrasound report mentioned ‘a thickening’ in the lower part of my womb so I was referred on the 2 week pathway, initially for investigation for endometrial cancer due to the location of the thickening but it turned out to be stage 1 cervical cancer. There’s more detail about my testing, diagnosis and treatment on my profile page (click on my username).

I’m sorry to hear of the anxiety caused by some of the comments made to you during appointments. In the testing phase, I was told that I was being sent for tests just to check/to rule out/to be thorough which helped.

I hope that your appointment comes through quickly so that you don’t have too long to wait to find out more. Sending you a hug.
