Hi all I'm new here so not sure if I'm posting this correctly, long story short I had cervical cancer 6 yrs ago , I was stage 2 I had a radical hysterectomy followed by 25 rounds of radiation, I have been suffering from severe stiffness in my hip and groin area the last yr , has any one else suffered from this after treatment and if yes have you any advice for easing the stiffness, tia

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

I’ve suffered the same with hip pain which is ongoing for me. I was diagnosed 6 years ago at stage 2b and had 32 sessions of pelvic radiotherapy when I was first diagnosed.

Have you had this pain investigated at all? I know I had an issue with my hip at my diagnosis as it was identified on my original mri scan, but at the time it wasn’t investigated further.

I’ve tried various things-special pillows in bed, heat pads and recently had physiotherapy via the nhs which involved sessions with a physio who taught me appropriate exercises-both stretching exercises and ones which I could do lying on my side in bed, and standing. I found these very helpful although it hasn’t fully resolved my issue.

I’d recommend seeing a gp if you haven’t done already to see if you can be referred for physio, although I did have to wait for a couple of months to be seen.

Pelvic radiotherapy can have long term effects, and it might be helpful for you to have a read of the information provided on this site for the Pelvic Radiation Disease Association

I’ve found over the years that my issues have got worse (though I did have a long recovery after major surgery for a recurrence which didn’t help!) so I’d certainly recommend seeing your doctor and trying to get some help with this if you can.
