Hello Everyone,

Newbie  to the forum. I’m 52, recently diagnosed I have cervical cancer.  I have had MRI and my results confirmed I am Stage 1B.  I’ve been told I will be getting a radical hysterectomy.  Awaiting on appointment.  I have been really struggling in mindset since my diagnosis. I’m trying too remain as positive as I can be.  I will get through this, BUT there is an element of doubt in my head.  What if scenario? Anyone else feel this?

Take Care you all!

  • Hello and welcome to the group!

I think we probably all have had that niggle at the back of our minds, but I have learned over the years that “what if” isn’t a helpful way to go if it’s taking you down a negative path in your mind.

Stage 1b is early enough for surgery-that’s the first positive thing! Most of us in the group have been diagnosed at later stages, so a radical hysterectomy hasn’t been an option for us, but I am aware there are some ladies who have had this and hope they will pop along to share their experiences.

The radical hysterectomy is a pretty major surgery, so you’ll need to take it very easy afterwards and take the recovery slowly and gently. But do think positively if you can-the surgery can get rid of the cancer and you may need no further treatment in the future. Meanwhile, glad to have you with us and please feel free to post anything you’d like-questions, worries, or just unloading from your mind. We are a very supportive and encouraging group and will help you as much as we can.
