My Nan

Hi All,

I hope everyone is doing as well as can be. I need some help with this. My nan who appeared to be fine all of a sudden is frail, tired and delirious. She has been diagnosed with Cervical cancer and it has spread to her Ovaries and her abdomen. The lump is 8cm. Does anyone have any insight to quality/length of life without treatment? I say without treatment because Drs aren't sure she will survive an op or chemo/radiotherapy.

Any response will be lovely. Thankyou for reading this!

Regards.

  • Hello  and welcome to the group.

I’m so sorry to hear about your Nan and what she is currently going through-the diagnosis must have been a real shock and is a lot for you all to deal with.

Once cervical cancer has spread, as it has in your nan’s case, surgery would not normally be possible and the treatment would normally be chemotherapy or a combination of chemotherapy and radiation but it seems your Nan would not be strong enough to tolerate this.

Unfortunately it would be impossible for any of us here to give any insight into quality of life and prognosis without treatment as we are simply cancer patients ourselves, and not medical professionals.

The best people to discuss this with would be the team caring for your Nan if you can. Their main focus without active treatment being carried out will be to manage any pain and symptoms and keep your Nan as comfortable as possible.

I’m sorry that it’s not really possible to give you the answers you’re looking for here, but please feel free to keep sharing with the group if you’d like to and feel you need some support. I hope you and your Nan have a good support network round you in terms of family and friends to help you get through this.

    Sarah xx
