Hi everyone,

I am new here I was diagnosed last month and am awaiting to start treatment on the 11.04.22

Is there anyone here who has had 5 weeks radiotherapy then a one/two week break then a 2 day stay for internal treatment. I will be given Chemotherapy once a week, I'm 47 and very nervous and  scared about the whole process, be great to chat to others about side effects and how they felt go off through this journey..

  • Hi Guccirush and welcome to the group

It’s common to have 5 weeks of radiotherapy, and it also common to have a 2 day stay for brachytherapy( internal radiation). I’ve never heard of ladies having a break between the two forms of treatment. They are usually done much closer together. But maybe there will be others who have experienced this who will post. Are you also having chemotherapy alongside the external radiotherapy? You might like to add some detail to your profile so that you don’t need to repeat yourself, and other ladies can see where you are in the process.

  • Hi Sarah, I do not know how to add it to my profile, but have edited the original post.
Thank you for the kind response xx

  • Hi guccirush and welcome to the group.

So today is the start of your journey! I realy hope you're not too nervous Kissing heart  A few of of us have just completed our treatment which is much the same as yours. Today will be a longer appointment as the radiologist will explain what happens first before you receive treatment. So you'll drink enough water to fill your bladder(every appointment) this is to help push both bladder and bowel out of the way then it takes 30/40 mins waiting to fill it up. The treatment itself is totally painless and the biggest challenge for me was to lie still for about 10/15 mins as I'm a wriggler lol. You will come out wondering why you worried so much. Good luck and keep us posted as to how you get on.

  • Hi again

So sorry-I should have explained how to do this. If you click on your name, you will see a button with “profile” on the right. Click on that and you will be able to add and edit details about yourself. You can see an example if you click my name, where you can read my story.

I completed the chemo and radiation more than 3 years ago, but we have ladies who have just finished, and some more about to start.

We have a lovely supportive group here who will help you with anything you need along the way, so you have come to the right place to be among friends who understand.

I wish you well with your treatment starting today-it’s natural to be scared of the unknown, but you will be fine and get through. Let us know you it goes.

    Sarah xx
