Clear Cell Cervical Cancer

A friend was diagnosed with Stage 2A Clear Cell cervical cancer a few months ago. She has finished treatment and scans are positive so far. It is a rare form of cervical cancer and I wondered whether anyone on the forum has had the same and could share their experiences please. All the information you find when googling seems to suggest that this type of cancer can be more aggressive.

Thanks in advance x

  • Hi  and welcome to our group.

I’m sorry I can’t answer your question as I had a different type of cervical cancer, but it’s kind of you to be looking for support for your friend.

This is a rarer type of cervical cancer, which can be more aggressive than the more common forms, but hopefully some other members of the group might be able to help you. Are you able share with us what type of treatment your friend had so that others can share their experience?

It’s good news that your friend has had positive news from scans so far, and I hope she has recovered well from her treatment.

  • Thanks for the response. She had radiotherapy (5 days a week for 5 weeks) with one weekly round of chemo and then 4 lots of brachytherapy.

I am struggling to find anything positive about this type of cervical cancer online (all the articles I can find suggest that it is more aggressive and has worse outcomes than HPV cervical cancer) and I think that she just needs to hear some positive stories.

  • The treatment plan your friend has had is very typical of the standard treatment plan at stage 2a for other types of cervical cancer but I can appreciate you are looking for specific information on clear cell, and that might be more difficult to find in this group unfortunately.

Something to bear in mind if you are searching on google is that statistics are by their very nature out of date when they are published as they are based on the preceding 5 year period and include patients of all ages and with all types of health conditions in addition to the cancer.

While you wait for replies from anyone with the right personal experience, I’d encourage you to focus on the positives rather than potentially poorer outcomes as everyone is an individual who reacts uniquely to treatment and you’ve said scans are positive so far.
