5 Years Today

As the title says, today is the 5 year anniversary of my first diagnosis with cervical cancer. It feels an important day psychologically to reach this date, even though i’ve had a recurrence.

The main thing is that I’m still here, thanks to the treatment and care I’ve had. My life is not the same, because it can’t be after life changing surgery, and I’m a different person in many ways. But life is good, and I want to be able to give some hope to others if I can.

  • Oh Sarah,  so many congratulations!  What a milestone!  That is just fantastic news, the best and offers so much hope to the rest of us.  I am so chuffed for you and this is so deserved after all that you have been through.  Also congratulations on getting through your recent surgery.  I hope you have a day of celebration planned, nay a week of celebrationJoyJoy.  Well done you and I am sending you hugs xxx

  • Thanks Julie! No celebrations planned unfortunately as I am on antibiotics now. Was at A&E yesterday as I developed a huge (10cm) abscess and had to get it drained. That was painful to put it mildly! So now I have another wound which has been packed and got a dressing on to match my nicely healing keyhole incisions and a dressing over the hole where they put in my abdominal drain. So I’m still on painkillers in addition to the antibiotics and not best pleased I can’t raise a glass to celebrate!

  • Aww Sarah that is an absolute bummer but from the sound of things even if you raised a glass it would pour straight out of all your new orifices!!!JoyJoy...but all that aside you are a true inspiration to us all and I'm so sorry to hear that you had to go through all that yesterday.  I hope so much that your pain is short lived and again I am so very very chuffed that you have crossed this milestone xxx

  • That made me laugh Julie, Joy Hoping to be able to see my gp today for a review-the surgeon said I needed to be seen yesterday to get my wound checked but as usual no appointments. Hope it’s better today!

  • Oh Sarah I hope you do manage to get it checked today.  The weather here is awful today, I hope it is better for you xxx

  • Horrible day of rain and wind here Julie. Waiting for a callback to see if they will see me today. I have been told they will, but not without speaking to me first-ridiculous and just a time wasting strategy it seems.

  • Hi Sarah,

Congratulations on your 5 year anniversary! That's so great. I really admire your courage and commitment to this group and helping others.

Hope you are feeling better from your recent op.

I'm due a six month check up in a week's time, pretty scared tbh, although I am feeling mostly good apart from my lymph problems in my right leg. I have seen a specialist who has put me on a long term course of antibiotics to try to avoid a recurrence of lymphangite. Feeling fine today. For the six month check up I have had a PET scan, mammogram, bone density screening and blood tests. Hoping for the best next week, also because I've taken on quite a lot of work recently and I just want to get on with my life!!!

Lots of love and best wishes to you Sarah and everyone in this group,

    Lulabell

  • Hi

Thanks so much for your kind words-much appreciated. I’m doing not too bad thanks.

It’s always anxiety inducing coming up to check ups but seems you’re having a comprehensive set of tests done. My 6 month check up was just an internal and a chat so things vary very much depending on country and even where you are here in the UK.

Will have everything crossed that things go well for you, and hope you’ll let us know. Also hope the antibiotics help with your lymph issues and you don’t get that infection again. It’s good to be feeling like you’re getting back to how things were before your diagnosis, and work will keep you busy!
