To be honest, I dont know whether to be furious or grateful. No one inc nurses or consultant warned me about the pain, lack of mobility, the help I would need in following few days!!!
Im grateful if they got it all!!?? But why won't they warned you???
Hi Jane75d4408e
I haven’t had the same surgery so I’ll leave it for others to comment, but hope things start to improve for you soon.

I had the radical hysterectomy on 9th Dec, im awaiting results. Hopefully b4 xmas good or bad I want to know. Tbh im finding there is no follow up care after surgery!! Other than results sometimes weeks later!! Im struggling with everything. I can't get in my shower so my partners had to take time off work (unpaid!) To look after me!! Is there not more that could/should be done?? We have got bills not being paid as im on ssp and my partner has taken so much time off! Yet we still dont qualify for U/C Why??!!
I can't see my family this Christmas due to my ill health so we r very alone in every which way.
Hi Jane
Can you remind me if you had abdominal surgery or keyhole-recovery times are usually very different.
When I went for my surgery for a radical hysterectomy, it was abdominal so I even though I didn’t have anything removed as it couldn’t be done, I had a long wound with 25 staples and I did find it hard in the first few weeks of recovery. I needed help from my partner initially and was in a lot of pain.
You should have a check up a few weeks after surgery to see how you are healing, so that would be your follow up, and you will get the results from pathology where everything that was removed is analysed. It’s always a wait for this.
I’m not sure how long you might have to wait as it can be a difficult time of year at Christmas with staff on leave etc. I’m sorry you can’t see family over Christmas-that will make things feel more difficult for you. Is there no-one who could visit you to save you going out to them?
I don’t have any experience of claiming u/c, but you could phone the support line (the number is in my signature) and talk through your situation for advice about money and benefits in general to see if they can suggest any help for you.
Things will get better, but I understand it’s very tough right now and feels very hard.

Thank you for your reply. I had robotic hysterectomy. I won't allow anyone here! My house is a shit hole! So too embarrassed plus it adds to my ptsd which is y yhe house is so bad! Im going in circles and getting nowhere! Im in dire need now!! But grants etc all take time!! Time i dont have!! I have limited family from being in care all my life! My real uncle and my foster family have done more than my family! But again nothing to help me now!! Or in ladt 6 months! Or probably in next 6 months. And ppl wonder y cancer patients are so low!! I've tried to be positive throughout everything. . . But y!? Who 4!? Its not like anyone actually cares!!
Ps. . Dont get me wrong my partner says ill beat it again and again . . Great! But thats not how I always feel! Cut it out im lucky if they can do that! But no one actually asks how i feel! Or if they do they dont really want an answer thats im struggling right now!
Hi
I read your post and I didn’t have to have surgery , I couldn’t as it had spread . I’ve done the chemo chemo/radiotherapy and brachytherapy. I am so sorry to hear how you’re struggling etc and how alone you feel . It must be awful to be in pain and to feel alone ( although I know your partner is helping ) . It’s not only the physical affects of cancer but the mental affects . They are helplines and I think they can help financially to try to help . I am sorry I can’t help myself and as you say it’s an absolutely horrid trying to get through it . I must admit these forums are good as there is a lot of people on here struggling like most of and I’m sure someone will read your post and hopefully point you in the right direction . There are also helpline that might be availble to help and guide you to hopefully help your financial situation . Sorry not to be of any help but I just wanted to reach out to you to say your not alone on here and there are people who’ve been through the same as you should hopefully can be of more help . I hope things get easier for you .
Sorry to hear about your experience I was diagnosed at stage 2B cervical cancer I couldn’t have surgery because it had spread to my prometrum but I was in the same position as you with money I found McMillan very helpful they found out that I could get pip which I had the higher rate and if u got a car u can get a blue badge I hope that’s helpful for u please let me know x
Hi I had robotic surgery. Im still awaiting results and the aches and pains are terrible. But I am seeing consultant on 7th
Hi Jane75d4408e
You mentioned before that you had robotic surgery, but was it via keyhole incisions-small holes in your tummy? Or was it open abdominal surgery-where you have a large cut down or across your tummy?
The level of pain and speed of recovery are normally different, with keyhole surgery normally having an easier and quicker recovery.
At least you will be seeing your consultant this week, where you can discuss all of this and hopefully get some reassurance.
