So i started chemo today for the interlace trial/ curative approach. I had an allergic reaction to palictaxel chemo and the oncologist has decided to put me straight onto radiotherapy. Does this mean they aren't trying to cure anymore. Im so worried. I just want it to work.

  • Hi

I’m sorry to read you had a bad reaction to that particular chemo-that can happen sometimes unfortunately. However, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t still trying to cure you. If you are now off the trial it’s normal to have a different chemo alongside the radiotherapy -Cisplatin. Has that been mentioned to you?

Many ladies have had very successful chemoradiation treatment with curative intent and without participating in the Interlace Trial first, so please take heart from that. Good luck with the next stage of your treatment, and please let us know if you have any questions as you go along. There’s plenty experience in the group from those of us who have been through it.

  • Thing is they've said theyre holding off chemo for now Flushed so i dont know. Is radiotherapy alone effective until they decide if I have a difftent chemo. I was supposed to be having cistoplatin with radio after but consultant told doctor they'll get me started on radio ASAP and I'll be going back through clinic to see her before xx

  • Normally the Cisplatin chemo is a low dose which is designed to make the radiotherapy more effective so I think that you’ll need to have a discussion with your doctor when you go back to see her.

Radiotherapy is considered the most important treatment for cervical cancer so ask her if she can give you some reassurance and confirm you are still on a curative pathway with radiotherapy alone.
