Evening , so I had my RH in Jan and have recovered well thankfully, my tissues have come back that although originally I had squamous cell cancer I also had a mix of smile. We spoke about chemo/radio but as my tissues etc had clear margins my consultant believes the risks involved don’t outweigh the benefit at moment and seemingly the chemo can cause further hearing loss, I already had poor hearing at age of 35 -
Due to this I’m now on 6monthly scans (had my first lot in march and are back clear ,phew)
just wondering if anyone has much experience with SMILE as I know it’s more rare and aggressive as I’m concerned about reoccurrence
TIA
Hi Lorzy321
SMILE does come up occasionally in the group, so I hope that someone can come along with some experience to share with you. It wasn’t something I had, so I don’t have any personal knowledge of it.
I was aware from my own treatment that chemo (Cisplatin) can cause tinnitus although it didn’t for me, but I can understand that it would be an important consideration for you if you already have hearing loss.
I hope someelse can come along to help, but well done on getting a clear scan in March. I hope that’s helped to reassure you.
Sarah xx
Hi Lorzy321
I had a radical hysterectomy too and my results were 1B1, grade 3 adenocarcinoma with a component of invasive SMILE. When I asked about it my doc said it is more aggressive but nothing else! I did not need further treatment as my doc said my cancer was small with clear margins etc. I just have physical checks every 3 months. I am 18 months post surgery now and doing ok.
I hope you continue to recover wellx
Thanks so much for replying this sounds positive I think when he said rare aggressive and now 6monthly scan’s I was just thinking wow they must believe a reoccurrence is high! Just my mind playing tricks on me I guess over thinking!!
Glad your recovering well it’s one hell of a rollercoaster journey x
