Hi I'm looking for some advice and so reassurance if possible please.
I have always had normal regular smear tests until my recent one.
It came back as high grade servere dyskaryosis and hpv positive.
I was sent for a colposcopy last week and it was the worst experience of my life. I recieved zero compassion, I had 4 people in the room one was training . The colposcopy nurse said I did have high grade servere dyskaryosis but there was a small area higher up that looked like early cervical cancer it may be high grade cells but she wanted to be honest with me.
I tried to ask questions obviously I was very upset and she didn't answer my questions and still I received no compassion or any words to even reassure.
I left in a mess and was inconsolable, my eldest son made a complaint on my behalf about the way I was treated.
Since then the lady who received the complaint called me and arranged for a gynecological doctor to call me to explain.
She was lovely but did say some microscopic cancer cells were found on my smear test but was telling me not to worry I will be having a LLETZ under general anaesthetic.
Obviously now I am thinking the worst and they found something on smear and colposcopy.
Please can anyone advise me and share their own experiences.
I have 3 younger children under 8 as well as my older son so I'm trying to be brave but I'm a mess.
Thank you xx
So sorry to hear you had such a bad experience,I can't really offer any advice as I was diagnosed with stage 2 so had different treatments, but can relate to your feelings.I felt angry, upset every emotion possible I have young children and it was them that got to through knowing that I had to carry on for them.I was told last week that my last scan came back all clear but it doesn't stop the worrying.I hope your treatment goes well xxx
Hi,
Sorry your feeling so anxious I hope my story may help as it could be similar. I went for a smear in september which came back with high grade cell changes. I was booked in for loop therapy which wasnt plesant but managable what they removed was then found to have early stage cancer 1a1 which is the earliest possible stage so I am told. My consultant informed me this was compleatly treatable and that he wanted to do a cone biopsy just to make sure there was no cancer left. This was done under general anesthesia as a day case in early october. I had no pain or discomfort from this procedure. I then had to wait until yesterday for the results and plan of treatment from this.... This was the most difficult time! Because of my age and my family being compleat my consultant reccomended a hysterectomy via keyhole surgery which is purley a preventative measure as they are confident the cancer has been removed my other option would be a watch and wait. To have 6monthly smears decreasing to yearly over a 10yr period under my consultants care. I chose the hysterectomy as I know I now have a higher chance of getting cancer again. Im now on the waiting list for my operation in the new year. Its been a very scary experience even though its curable it doesnt stop the anxiety and I wish you all the best. Please dont hesitate to contact with any further questions
Thank you for responding, I have my LLETZ procedure under general anaesthetic next Thursday so hopefully I will find out more information from surgeon. Its the waiting that's hard and I'm automatically thinking the worst. They say not to look on Google but I find myself doing it as you get so little information.
Thank you again for your reply I'm glad you are ok and booked for your procedure in the new year x
There is also another website called jo's cervical cancer trust which can be helpful maybe give that a look indtead of google. Its hard to take anyrhing else in when you here the word cancer but belive me its curable at an early stage and thats the thing to remember xx
Hi, so sorry to hear you had a bad experience. I had a smear test in Jan 2018 which showed abnormal cells, I then had a loop diathermy with local anesthetic in later Jan, my then consultant went on leave and left me hanging, waiting for the results. After many phone calls. I was contacted by my current consultant in early March 2018, an appointment was made for March 9th, this is the day he told me I had 1A1 cancer with high grade cgin, I was offered another loop treatment or a laproscopic hysterectomy, as my family is complete (my kids are 26 and 22 now) and I was 40 at that time, I opted for the hysterectomy with my ovaries maintained, so I didn't go through early menopause. I had my surgery on 28th March 2018, I was released from hospital after just 3 days but had to be on bed rest for at least 6 weeks. I still have appointments every 6 months and vault smears every 12 months. So far everything is looking good but it doesn't stop me from worrying. My consultant has been amazing throughout. I will continue to be monitored until 2023. I hope everything goes well for you xx
