Hi, I was diagnosed de novo in June 2024 I was put on Ribociclib but it didn’t agree with me and was put on Abemaciclib which I have had no problems with along with Letrozole and Denosumab injection, they have been a dream other than feeling tired but now it looks like the treatment has stopped working and they have found several spots in my liver which I am so disappointed about, I have had an MRI yesterday and a liver biopsy next Tuesday to confirm and have been told I will probably be going on Capecitabine which I am really worried about. I am not sure why I will be on this drug so quickly bearing in mind it is a chemotherapy drug. Has anyone been on this drug who can give me some feedback on it, I am seeing the oncologist on 21stAugust and will ask him then but my anxiety levels are high not knowing

I am sorry you have progression and liver mets. I have had liver mets but with a different breast cancer and I haven’t had capecitabine. I have seen a number of people post about it recently and hope someone will be along to give their experiences soon. As well as systemic treatment, I was offered microwave ablation for my liver mets. It could be worth asking if that’s a possibility. I think they have to be few in number and small. I have had the procedure twice, once on 1 met and once on 2.

This is Cancer Research UK’s information on the procedure. It’s talking about neuroendocrine tumours that have spread to the liver; I understand it is more common for those to be treated this way. But the procedure is the same regardless of primary. My hospital has an interventional radiologist who has done quite a lot of them on breast cancer secondaries. It might be that your tumours are not suitable for this (eg too large, too many). I am not sure this specialism exists in all hospitals. (Mine is quite a large hospital).
