Hello,

My name is Nicola and im new to the group.

I first got diagnosed with ER+ HER2 - breast cancer in 2015. I had a lumpectamy, removal of 3 lymph nodes from under my arm, chemotherapy, radiotherapy. Had ovaries removed in 2016. Started on tomoxifen and anastrozol but these did not agree with me so i ended up taking letrozole for remaing time which took me to 10 years (finished last year).

In April 2025, i was diagnosed with secondry ER+HER2 low breast cancer which had spread to one of my lungs and widespread mediastinal nodes.

Started on Abemiciclib and Fulvestrant in July 2025, but they had to keep reducing the Abemiciclib due to my platlets down to 27 and red and white bloods out of sync. Also my bone marrow reading was not right.

In January 2026 had CT scan which showed the cancer was stable which was a relief, but they had discovered i had a blood clot from my liver to portal vein for which i now take Apixiban for rest of my life.

I suffer from cirrhosis of the liver (NAFLD), Type 2 Diabetes, underactive Thyroid. Therefore my oncolohist thought it was to dangerous to continue with the Abemiciclib due to my existing medical conditions and the recent finding of the blood clot, but to just continue with the Fulvestrant alone.

This is my first line treatment but i have been told that there is another harmone blocker (Exemestane tablet) which they could give me once fulvestrant no longer works which is simular to the letrozole.

I have asked if there are any clinical trials but been told not at the moment.

However, my oncologist has confirmed if there are any new cancer treatments she will let me know.

Not sure what to do with this information, is anyone else in a simular position, or does anyone know of any other trestments?

Thank you

  • Hi Nicola ( )

I am sorry to hear you have secondary breast cancer along with a number of other health challenges. I also have secondary breast cancer but of a different type (TNBC), so my treatment pathways have been different.

It sounds like you are stable on your current treatment and that you do have further treatment options. If you do want to research clinical trials that may be suitable but not available at your hospital, the Make Seconds Count charity offer a free service where one of their nurses will gather your details and search more widely to try to identify any trials that might be a fit. If any are identified, they would be able to advise on next steps. Clearly your other health issues might come into play when assessing whether any trial would be suitable along with any travel factors involved.
