Zolendronic acid and dunosumab

I have secondary metastatic breast cancer in my spine and sacrum, recently it was also found in my femur. Oncologist and orthopedic surgeon are unclear if this is new or has always been there Thinking

The orthopedic surgeon recommended i start zolendronic acid treatment, this was mentioned by my oncologist right at the beginning but with other treatments it never happened. When I had telephone appointment this week I asked about it but was told that as I have dunosumab injection I don't need it. I just wonder why the surgeon recommended it in his letter, we discussed the current treatment plan so he was aware of what medication I'm on.

Does anyone else have both or just one of these treatments?

Many thanks for reading xx

  • Hi

I'm not a member of this group, although I do have six-monthly infusions of zolendronic acid, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

  • Hi Lfc74,

I have Triple Negative secondary BC. I have Zoledronic acid alongside my intravenous chemo (chemo every 3 weeks, Zole every 6 weeks) since I started treatment in June 2024.

I thought Denosumab was a similar but alternative treatment (to strengthen bones) but perhaps given to those who are not having IV chemo (poss as its quicker to do a Denosumab injection than 15mins of Zole infusion plus catheter insertion etc) ? But I'm no expert !

Do you have a Secondary BC nurse assigned to you ? I’ve never met mine, but if I send her an email she would answer questions like this (asking the consultants if necessary), and put it in more user-friendly terms Blush

    Good luck with your treatment.
