Hello All,
I have Triple+ breast cancer grade 3 early stage (no lymph node involvement).
I am currently trying to complete neo-adjuvant chemo but proving allergic to every drug & battling every side-effect on the tin (neutropenia/ severe gut pain/ diarrhoea/ mucusitis/ tinnitus - the list goes on).
My chemo number is 5 per cent in terms of added life expectancy.
The plan is to switch me from Paclitaxel to Abraxane for 6 more weekly infusions. But it’s still a taxane and I know I will still get the side-effects. My team has already taken Docytaxel & Carboplatin off the table.
Has anyone else with a similar allergic profile switched to Abraxane & had better/ similar experiences?
5 per cent currently feels like a small number!
Thanks so much for reading this.
Hi Shari
I have had both Paclitaxel and Abraxane (NAB-Paclitaxel). Abraxane has the same active ingredient but a different suspension and I understand is much less likely to cause an allergic reaction. I hadn’t had a problem with Paclitaxel but was needing the drug a second time round. I found Abraxane a lot easier. No need for the steroids and anti histamines. Quite a smooth treatment.
