Feeling surreal after surgery

I had a therapeutic mammoplasty and six lymph nodes removed on Tuesday it was a five hour procedure and my surgeon was happy with how it all went and thinks he has achieved clear margins obviously we have to wait for the results in two weeks to be sure had my drain taken out yesterday and landed up having my dressings changed as my pico wasn't working, again everything looked fine

I was really sick from the anaesthetic Tuesday untill Wednesday morning where it finally wore off and I felt much better and ive not been in too much pain either and have reasonable arm movement so, so far everything is looking good

But I thought after my surgery I would feel this big rush of relief as the biggest hurdle would be over but I just feel kind of surreal I guess im worried about the results the potential of having to have more surgery.the fear of having to go through chemo and the fear of it spreading but im not feeling any kind of relief yet, maybe its too soon after surgery? I've been quite teary and down which i really wasnt expecting, has anyone felt like this?

I've always thought i was quite a strong person but cancer has totally broken me Sob

  • Hi

I think it’s very normal to feel quite down after surgery. Your body has been through some trauma, and it sounds like you had a rough time in the aftermath. Meanwhile of course there’s always the anxiety of not knowing what comes next. I am sure you are a strong person who is having a perfectly normal reaction to the horrors of stepping through this. Look for small moments when things seem normal and you get some enjoyment from something. Hopefully they will build into bigger blocks of good time.
