Just back from oncologist post lumpectomy , nipple removal and SNB . ER/PR positive HER negative. Tumour removed with clear margins but twice to side stated 22mm, and macromet in lymph node. Surgeon said RT one week as onco score low at 14. Oncologist today says either total node clearance and radiotherapy to breast and drugs or radiotherapy only to breast and lymph nodes with drugs but if latter 3 weeks RT. Also both six monthly alendronic acid IV. Up to me apparently what I choose ?????? As I’m moderate risk they can’t really say which is best. WTH am I supposed to do ? At 58 I have choice but if I were in my 40s have the surgery and RT. I feel in my 40s ???? I’m so frustrated

All I would say is the oncologist is likely to be the expert on this, not the surgeon. The choice between node clearance and radiotherapy to the axilla is the key issue for you to consider. Higher risk of lymphoedema with surgery but perhaps slightly lower risk of recurrence.
