Change of plans - another sweep of the carpet underneath

Yesterday I got informed that the final test result had come through and it now turns out that I am Her2 positive aswell so I now won’t be having surgery on the 15th of September as I have to have chemo before it can be taken out.

There is another wait before I meet the oncology team to move forward with this.
I had a tearful day yesterday and woke up at 6am this morning not being able to go back to sleep even though I desperately need it and I’m still tearful.
My anxiety atm feels like it’s doubling me over.

Im trying to see this as a good thing. More tailored treatment is always a good thing. But it’s another wait followed by the treatment that really does make everything real.

It’s all a bit too much today. Though have hubby for support today as we are going camping with our daughter and doggy for a couple of nights.
Feeling the weight of it all very vividly this morning

  • Hi

I am sorry you are finding the changes to plan and the waiting hard. Unfortunately, until all tests are back, plans are tentative as each type of breast cancer is treated differently. There are a couple of positives in this. The fact that it has HER2 receptors means these can be targeted with treatment; and by giving the chemo and targeted treatment first, they can see how you are responding to the treatment. I hope it’s not long before you can get started, and it will become easier once treatment is underway.

  • Thank you Pray that’s what I’m trying to focus on. I know it’s all part of the process. Lucky I’ve had a shaved head before! I’m going to shave it all off again after the oncologist meeting Sweat smile
