Had my consultant appointment yesterday to discuss surgery and I have decided on theraputic mammoplasty as I just dont think i could cope with having a mastectomy my surgeon thinks this is the best option for me too and im glad after 10 weeks we have a plan in place

Just wondering what other people's experiences of mammoplasty are, how you found recovery or any tips that would be useful? Im not nervous about surgery as much as what the recovery is going to be that thanks

  • I had mammoplasty on both boobs, lumpectomy on the left and reduction on the right at the same time. My advice is get a V pillow for bed as you will have to sleep upright for a few weeks, it's useful on the sofa or chair too. I lived in button front pyjamas for a while as it was easier, then front opening tops and needed help to get dressed and undressed.  Bought shower wipes as I couldn't shower until the dressings came off and a cross body drain bag to carry the drain around in. I took paracetamol for the pain. Make sure you do the arm exercises as often as you can to get full movement back, take painkillers before if you need to, it's very important to do them. Overall it was more awkward than anything, the scars fade over time. If you are only having one side operated on your recovery will be much easier and quicker. Good luck.

  • Thank you so much for the reply thats brilliant advice that I hadn't even thought of

  • Glad it helps, if you think of any other questions feel free to ask.
