Large tumour 9cm x 8cm & CANT SAVE THE SKIN

I am one of the breast cancer community champions and I noticed you hadn’t had a response to your post. Unfortunately I don’t have any experience to offer - my cancer isn’t lobular and I haven’t had a mastectomy. I understand lobular cancers can be quite hard to see on imaging so can understand that you may have had a horrible shock from the MRI findings. I think I have seen in your other posts that you are having chemotherapy first. One of the objectives of having chemo first is to shrink the tumour and I hope that makes a difference for you.

I noticed you have created a few posts about different aspects of your cancer / treatment and I hope you are getting support from the community. It’s obvious you are in some distress at the moment and I would recommend speaking to one of our lovely nurses about your concerns. Their number is below. 

Hi, I am 3 weeks post mastectomy. I am 49. I was also shocked when they told me my tumour was 9cm. I am pretty vigilint and it wasnt a 'lump' so much as my breast went hard. Due to the size I  was also told full masX with no skin saving or reconstruction. After surgery and it was out it actually measured 121mm! I was only a 34D so I just cant comprehend it. It also turned out it was a mix of lobular and ductal (initially only told ductal) and my understanding is that lobilar is more sneaky to present. It was in 15 of my lymph nodes so just gearing up for chemo, radio, targeted therapy and then hormone treatment for 10 years. It is such a lot to take in and I share your feelings. TBH recon is such a big op in addition to the mX that I am not sure I would have chosen it anyway but so upsetti g to not have the option. 3 weeks in and I am at peace with it and my softie prosthesis is doing a great job along with patterned tops.
