Changing from Letrozole to Exemestane - anyone had improvements?

Hi, I'm one of the champions here in this group and I wanted to acknowledge your post as I noticed you haven’t had any responses yet.  I'm on letrozole myself and I have noticed that different brands can create different site effects, due to the fillers that companies put into them, might be worth a discussion with you medical team.

I changed from Anastrozole to Exemestane and found symptoms were better. Ive had a couple of months long breaks from both. After the break from Exemestane I found symptoms were so much better when I started taking them again. So far so good now. Maybe ask for a break and see how you go on when you start taking them again. Xx

My consultant wasn't on board with a break when I suggested it and didn't mention exemestane as an option at all.  I also talked to the pharmacist about changing brands to see if it helped but then when it came to repeating prescription the brand I was trying wasn't available which is frustrating.  Thanks for your message.  I think I will give it a go. x

I have been on Anastrozole for nearly two years.  It was fine to start but as the months have gone on I have very painful muscle and joint pain, along with hot flushes and carpal tunnel. Feel no quality of life.

Then I had an 8 week break,  what a difference, aches and pains are not as bad, no carpet tunnel and hot flushes less. Lost 6lbs also.

I have now had to take Exemestane and its all started again. Same problems as with Anastrozole.  Back to splints at night and have gained another problem itchy skin.

I wish I didnt have to take these blockers. I think a lot of people suffer the same problems and its definitely the medication.

So sorry to hear how much you're struggling.  I'm absolutely sick of myself most days!  I hope you find a solution that's easier on your body. x

I stick to the same Letrozole brand. I collect a paper prescription from my doctor and phone around different pharmacies, to see who has my preferred brand in stock, and then collect from there.
It's hard work some times but works for me.

What brand did you find worked better for you?

I have only ever taken the Accord brand. I am 70 and have been taking it now for 19 months. I feel great. I walk a lot - not excessively though - which helps with the hips and knee stiffness.

My thinking is - why change brands when I feel so well on Accord - so I will collect a paper prescription from my doctor which gives me the freedom to go to which ever pharmacy has them in stock.

Hi Shazza I have been on Exemastane for about two years now.  I have joint pain but I have cancer in my bones so don't really know what causes what.  I was on Letrozole before and am much better on Exemastane.  Walking helps with my stiffness and pain.
