Very Disappointed!! Blood sample lost, chemotherapy delayed

I had my blood test yesterday, as my chemotherapy was scheduled for this afternoon.

My appointment was at 3:20pm, and I arrived 10 minutes early. There were no other patients waiting, so I was seen immediately.

Next day, the nurse called again to inform me that my results had still not been received. Upon contacting phlebotomy, she was told my blood sample had never even been received from the previous day.

I was deeply disappointed. As a result of this, I was asked to repeat the blood test, and my chemotherapy had to be rescheduled. This entire stress was caused solely by the irresponsible and unprofessional conduct of the phlebotomy staff. Furthermore, my friend—who travelled from Southend to support me—must now make the journey again, as my husband will be working.

This incident is extremely frustrating, and such negligence is entirely unacceptable.

How awful for you to have this happen.  Mistakes will always happen unfortunately, because we as humans do make them, it's just so much worse when a mistake happens in a more pressurised situation.

You will no doubt be extremely stressed by having cancer in the first place /needing chemo. and then having this happen to you on top, it's just the 'cherry on top of the cake' scenario, so I do feel for you.

I do hope from now on during your treatment that things go smoothly for you and I hope putting it in writing in this forum has helped a teeny bit to relieve a little of the huge frustration felt by their error.

    Kindest wishes, Lesley
