Lobular breast cancer & Diep flap surgery

Hi Acorn I had an LD reconstruction in 2004 which is different to the one you are considering but there will be similarities if you want to ask anything. 

I also had a recurrence in 2025 and had my implant replaced and 15 sessions of radiotherapy to the reconstruction. Im pleased to say that the actual skin flap survived the radiotherapy intact. Which was great. Unfortunately the implant has developed capsular contraction so I am facing removal. They cant replace it as apparently it's likely the capsular contraction will recurr. They have offered me a DIEP to replace my implant but Im not quite sure yet what this will involve since I have an LD skin flap. I doubt I'll find anyone in the same position as me but I 'll be interested in hearing what a DIEP involves. 

Its good you have a support network around you, its so important. 

When I had my LD it was 1 night in HDU then 7 days in hospital and when drains removed. Then about 6/7 weeks of taking it steady and 6 months to feel back to a "new" normal. Ask away if I can help but obviously it was a slightly different recovery to DIEP

Thanks so much for your reply. I am so sorry you find yourself back here again. I am very nervous about the diep, as there will be my stomach and 2 breasts to heal all at the same time. I'm having the non affected breast lifted & reduced to match the newly constructed breast. I'm just reminding myself this is just one part of my life, so I need to suck it up and be brave in order to have a future. It's all the waiting that gets to me.  Good luck with your treatment, please update and let me know how you get on xx
