Hi
I had a lumpectomy nearly four years ago for a small grade 2 lobula carcinoma
it was ER 8/8, PR 8/8 and HER - 2
i took anastrozole for 3 years and 10 months but stopped in June because of joint ache and stiffness. My joints feel much better now
Have I taken it for long enough to keep my breast cancer from returning?
Hi KatieMaria
Welcome to the breast cancer forum. I am not sure it’s possible to answer your question. Cancer can always recur whatever you do. Ultimately any drug carries a mix of benefits and risks and side effects vary from person to person. Only you can judge how problematic your joints were and how important the improvement you now feel is to you and your overall quality of life. Having made the decision, it’s probably best not to dwell on the what ifs. And if you do get a recurrence, don’t beat yourself up about it, you can’t know whether it would have happened anyway.
