Hi I have been diagnosed with breast cancer for a second time.
As I had 2 lumpectomies and radiotherapy last time this time has to be a mastectomy.
I’d welcome any thoughts on Diep reconstruction please
Hi Helen24
I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum. I'm sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with breast cancer for the second time and that you need a mastectomy. While I don't have the experience you are looking for I've noticed that you haven't had any replies yet so I thought I'd reply to you to move you to the top of the discussion. Hopefully someone will be along shortly to give you the benefit of their experience.
Wishing you the best of luck with the surgery and any other treatment you may need.
Best wishes

Hi Helen.
I would be interested in any replies you get about diep reconstruction as this has been suggested for me by my breast surgeon following 2nd recurrence and now capsular contraction in my 22 year old LD reconstruction. I had the implant replaced prior to radiotherapy but its now in need of taking out. My surgeon doesnt want to risk putting another implant in so he has referred me to the plastic surgery team to discuss diep.
Im struggling with the decision because im now 68yrs and not sure if i can face major surgery again. When I had the LD reconstruction I was in my 40s and although im fairly fit and healthy, I remember recovery was a struggle at times even then.
I hope you get some replies and helpful information. Good luck with your decision xx
