Hi

Abemaciclib - i started on this Mid April 2026 and dose reduced to 100mg 5 weeks ago.

Diarrhoea is the main issue, 2-3 times per day. Told to take Imodium {Lopermide} 2.5mg at first loose motion.

my concern is taking Loperamide over 2 years what impact will it have on the bowels.

or is this something we just have to go with.

I had lumpectomy, Grade 3, hormone fed cancer and 4 cancerous lymphnodes, chemo, radiotherapy and Letrozole.

any thoughts

thank you

  • Hey Avantika,I had similar issues with Abemaciclib and had to reduce to lower dosage aswell,it did ease up after awhile,so I do hope it eases up for you tooFingers crossed tone3Fingers crossed tone3I hope we have more good days then bad.

  • Thank you, that gives me confidence.

I am 61. Yes hope more good days than bad.

    All the best.

  • Hi,

you seem to be on the same path as me, in my case Grade 3 with 2 affected lymph nodes. I finished the abema in early May this year.
I got the diarrhoea for the first 6/8 weeks plus occasional excruciating abdominal pain, but really didn’t want to use loperamide I made my diet really bland and that helped a lot. It was a bit tedious, but preferable to the excitement of sudden outpourings and rushing to the loo. I was able to go back to my more normal way of eating with more roughage and veg raw or with some bite left in them. I just sensed gradually that I was ok to do that.

i had a phase of feeling that I would get through just fine but I did have some bad coughs in the first winter and various other infections at other times, but not too bad overall. Tiredness became a thing in the last 6 months or so and I have been glad to finish.

All the best with the pills, it’s not a great experience, but I believed it to be a valuable prescription for me to take. xxx

  • Hi there, I am currently taking 150mg and the stomach issues have settled down quite a bit - I am now on my 4th cycle. I have found it worse if I eat too much fat, ready meal style meals- such as a pizza with salad and coleslaw ! But generally if I cook food myself and keep off very rich sauces it seems better. It’s not nice and hope yours settles down too ! The tiredness is sometimes horrid and then I get a bout of good days. I find I worry about infections etc and hope in time I can relax a little more.

  • thank you, i will persevere.

  • thank you, wish you well with your tiredness and anxiety.

good to know i am not the only one with these issues

  • you have done well and got through it, my best wishes
