Gene tests

I had a genetic test for hereditary haemochromatosis and I had to wait 6 weeks for the result (resident in south-east London)

Thank you for your reply. Lorraine contacted breast  nurse on Tuesday but no response as yet.   Considering phoning consultants secretary to see if they can help.

Hi, my testing took about 6 weeks also.  My daughters did take much longer though, more like 3 months xx

I had testing for BRCA1 and BRCA2 defects in early March of this year. I was advised the results would take about 6 weeks but they were back in less than 4. The processing lab was Southampton University Hospitals Trust. I think it can vary quite a lot. My results were copied to my GP and I could see the uploaded letter on the NHS app a few days before it arrived through the mail.

In my case the results took 12 weeks. I had a telephone appointment to receive them. It seems to vary hugely between regions. Mine was done through St Marks in London. Love and hugs, HFxx

I think it also depends what the blood is being tested for. If it’s just one or two specific genes then I think it’s quicker. In my case they looked for around 6 different genes xx

Thank you for your reply.  There appears to be a lot of variables so she may just wait until she finishes her week of radiotherapy thats starts next week.
