Hi Everyone

Seeking some advice - I'm ten days on from surgery right breast lumpectomy and mammoplasty with lymph node biopsy - have just had my drain removed and dressings replaced.

Thought I was doing really well but then WHAM pain started, undescribable underarm soreness, pain when doing simple movements. I'm having to find a position that gives some relief and try not to move too much.   I've read other reports that this is "normal" that pain and soreness is at its worst sometimes 10-14 days on.

I feel like I'm reacting like a baby.  I had a left breast mastectomy and implant and right breast reduction fourteen years ago and just don't recall being this uncomfortable.  Maybe it's just that I simply don't remember.

Feeling really emotional particularly as I've just returned home (was staying with my sister) and I'm on my own trying to do simple daily tasks that are just so painful.

I've also just received MRI results from a knee injury and have a tear to the posterior root of the medial meniscus.  So I'm also struggling to weight bare and move around without a lot of knee pain.

I've cried like a baby today and feel so ashamed I'm not coping better, but as if the breast surgery wasn't enough to be dealing with I'm now trying to deal with reduced mobility.

  • Hi there, gosh it sounds like everything has come together for you at the wrong time. I'd say that some post surgery pain is normal, but if you're struggling, give your BCN or your GP a call and just check in with them. If it's something more serious you'll know or you'll be able to reassure yourself.  Best wishes
