2nd round of surgery and chemo

I was diagnosed with IDC with 1 lymph node mets G3 TNBC in May 2025. I've had carboplatin and paclitaxel, and EC. with immunotherapy. I had a lumpectomy with 4 lymph nodes removed in Dec. Both tumours were removed and margins were clear but the team weren't happy with how much the tumour in the lymph node had responded to treatment and have advised that there maybe residual cells in the lymph nodes that weren't touched. as a preventative measure i am having full node clearance, then radiotherapy, then capcitabine for 8 cycles because immunotherapy didn't work. Has anyone else had to go through this? A second round of chemo and surgery? I know its for the best but I'm really scared. Both for the potential lymphodema from the surgery and the side effects from the chemo. I had mentally and (almost) physically managed to get over the effects of chemo, but I'm not sure if I'm mentally strong enough to go through it again. Just the thought of it scares the hell out of me. If you've got this far thankyou!

  • Hi reaching out as on the same treatment plan as you, is Cape a tablet of infusion i thought it was a tablet ? Hopefully some on on here can give you positive feedback Slight smile

  • Hi denisthemenaced

I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions.  I had eight cycles of capcitabine during 2021 for residual cells in my lymph nodes.  I got through the 8 cycles without any problems. i also had a complete clearance of my lymph nodes in 2023 after I got breast cancer again in a different breast and they found cancer in my lymphs after my surgery.  So far I haven't had any problems with the arm since I had them removed.

Wishing you the best of luck with the new chemo and the node clearance.

    Best wishes
