Im going in on 29th jan to have my left breast examied .I feel a bit concerned as had my second yearly mammogram done in sept which came back with needing more tests. Was told i have a benign q4mm cyst in breast.Forward 2 months and ive been gaving lots of itching and pain in my breast. So doctor has sent me back to clinic and have to do all testing again.Feel like you just start to feel ok then you get pulled back in.Feeling hopeful for a good result but when having my right masectomy would have been happy to do both breasts. How often between first cancer and getting it again in other breast actually happens.

  • Hi, I don't know the average time between recurrences, but it must be so frustrating to have to go through more tests and more waiting.  Fingers crossed that it's nothing sinister and that all is well. Best wishes

  • Hi,

I had cancer in my right breast in April 2013.  I had Lumpectomy and radiotherapy.

Last March 2025 I had felt a lump on the other side of the same breast.

I had mammogram / ultrasound on both breasts and was told the lump I could feel was changed and scarring from the lumpectomy and radiotherapy back in 2013.

    Also left breast clear.

In December 2025 I noticed a shadow / discolouration on left breast.  GP referred me to breast unit after her original diagnosis/treatment for mastitis did not work.

After lots of tests I was told on Friday that I have two lumps in left breast plus lymph nodes.

The lumps are two different cancers.

However on the positive (which I take and grasp tightly with both hands - the cancer's have not spread to my organs.

I am having a bone scan today 23.1.26 to see if my bones are clear too

Try not to stress.  You are right to get checked again.

Be assured that if cancer is found you will receive the best care and the team looking after you will give you the best care.

I send big gentle hugs to you xx
