Hi I had a large breast tumour in march and a couple of lymph nodes that had cancer … they suggested I had chemo which I had 4 you da if EC then 4 of paxitaxil post chemo showed complete response to chemo then had surgery on the 3rd of last month got my results yesterday they want me to have more surgery as margins wernt clear and 4 of the 7 nodes still have cancer … I’m out of my mind with worry as they also want me to have a pet scan to see if it’s spread im so scared about it all has anyone else had something like this x

  • Hi

I haven’t had this experience but my reply will bump your post back up to the top and hopefully someone who has been in a similar situation will respond. I’ve certainly read many posts where people had to have further surgery because the margins weren’t clear.
Sorry you’re back in that horrible limbo land of waiting for more tests. Very scary and frustrating. It’s probably not comforting but it does sound as if the medics are being very thorough. Sending love and a big virtual hug, HFxx

  • Hi Pollyperk

I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum.  I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer over five years ago and I still had some cancer left in my lymph nodes after having chemo.  I had a CT Scan as well as a Bone Scan and luckily they didn't find any spread.  My oncologist put me on a course of chemo tablets for six months to mop up any cancer cells that might have escaped.  Once I finished treatment I was cancer free for two years, then they discovered a small recurrence.  I had the tumour removed and I've been cancer free since then.

Wishing you the best of luck with your scan and hopefully you'll be given the all clear.

    Best wishes

  • Thankyou daisy53 that gives me huge reassurance I spoke with breast nurses today about my fears and worry’s they asked me to see them at the unit we had a long chat which was really kind of them they explained that chemo doesn’t always work on lymph nodes so if my pet scan is clear I will have total lymph clearance and a bit more of the margins .. just the waiting for this pet scan .. thankyou for replying x
