Hi. I need some, reassurance I guess. I'm due a single mastectomy on Monday, (today's Thursday) and I can't find a front fastening bra that fits me anywhere! Doesn't help being overweight by SEVERAL lbs/kgs.
Can anyone whose already had surgery let me know if the hospital USUALLY discharge you with something?
One of my lumps is quite high up so there's a possibility I'll be concave not just flat ....
(Not nervous at all... It's safe to say I'm approaching panic stations)
I'm looking for one. I went for a bra fitting to M&S yesterday. It is front fastening but it has hooks that go into a sort of ribbon loop. It's too difficult to fasten and I imagine it will be painful after surgery. So I'm also looking for recommendations. I'm a bit too 'well endowed'.
Good luck for Monday.
Hello! I had a double masectomy in May and I want to reassure you that the operation is more straightforward than I thought and pain post surgery was minimal and manageable with paracetamol. I did take 1 codeine to go to bed as also helped me sleep. I had 2 drains which were more a nuisance than painful and they came out on day 10 post surgery once outputs were less than 30ml for 3 consecutive days.
Regarding bras I was visited by the BCN the morning after the op and they gave me a post surgery bra which was front opening and also the option to have lightweight pads to wear. The bra wasn’t very attractive but did the job until I was healed!!
I am sending you lots of positive vibes and good wishes for your operation. You have got this!!
Hi I had a double mastectomy with breast reconstruction. I purchased amoena bras which were great. M&S did not quite do the job.
It may be too late to speak to your BCN as it is late on Friday.
Breast Cancer help line is very good and would be worth a try.
All the best
Have a look at the Enell Original Sports Bra - https://enell.com/ for something front fastening that caters for bigger sizes.
Thinking of you and sending love and hugs and prayers your way. I had lumpectomy in both breasts so can’t help you on recovering etc but there are many lovely ladies here who will share and give you wonderful advice.
Dr Liz O’Riordan on YouTube is fabulous. I live in Florida but watch her always as well as menopause and cancer with Dani Binnington. Good solid information. ️

M&S do post surgery bras. If u know what size u can order online and get it posted to u. Also cancer research website do post surgery bras. Also chat to the bteast care nurses that should advise and help u with any worries. Not easy journey. I'm just over 2 weeks recovery. Getting there. Make sure u have support and help. Don't b afraid to see help. We all need support during this time. Best wishes with your surgery. X
Hi, so sorry you are feeling so panicked. It’s such a big thing to deal with but you heal really quickly.
I didn’t get given anything so would buy some Bras. I am quite small chested and found I had to rebuy bras as I went for a larger size and it was still too small ! So go bigger ! I pretty much wore sports bras as I found the front fastening ones made me a bit sore - I bought from Argos/
sainsburys and marks and Spencer and if I had my time again I would spend a bit more and get some better quality ones . As you sleep in them it’s good to have at least 2 . I hope that helps
