Hi, apologies if this is not the right place to create this thread.
my relative has recently undergone a mammogram and biopsy (26 sept). She previously had a diagnosis of inflamed cysts. She was told she would be called back the following week.
she didn’t get called back and instead this week was booked in for a telephone call labelled as “urgent” on my chart for 22 Oct and a face to face on 29 Oct. Does this mean she likely has cancer or could this possibly be routine? I was wondering if this is a common pathway when diagnosed?
I’m mainly writing so I can gauge how to support her during this time.
really appreciate any responses, thank you!
Hi, it probably means they have found something that needs further investigation or the biopsy has shown up some cancerous cells. In terms of support, I'd suggest to be with her for the phone call as well as ensure she has someone to take her to to hospital. Be prepared to take notes, especially on the phone as it can be harder to follow the information and don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand.
The time between now and the call is the hardest, so distractions are good, and helping your relative keep busy and keep hr mind off things would be a great support.
best wishes
Thank you very much for your reply. Really appreciated.
all the best x
