Delays to adjuvant chemotherapy

Hello, I had an 8 week wait to see the oncologist after my lumpectomy surgery, I have a grade 3 IDC, high Prosigna score, so I will need chemotherapy but I'm still waiting for the pre-scans like the echo so it may be a few more weeks before my chemo starts. I read that any delays longer than 12 weeks may mean the chemo isn't effective, it increases the risk of reoccurrence and decreases survival :( I feel very worried and scared. Has anyone else had a delay in starting chemo after surgery?

  • Gosh really, I didn’t know that! I started chemo a lot longer than 12 weeks after surgery.

  • Hi, here's some information and there are more target dates in NICE guidance. I think we should all be trying to get the best outcomes for ourselves but I found I had no control over the delays which were due to poor planning by my team and staff being on holiday. It's very sad and worrying but maybe I'm posting so that others can try and push for better appointment dates and maybe contact PALS.
