Hi all. I had my post operative consultant's appointment at the breast clinic this morning.

I was originally told I had Lobular Cancer with a lesion of 13mm, grade 2 stage 1. I'm healing well, physically and mentally and I have been told that the cancer was, in fact, DCIS, ER8, PR7, grade 3, stage 1. My margins were clear, my sentinel node was clear as were the blood vessels which were analysed.

So obviously I'm relieved about what I've been told. I have been advised that I will definitely require radiotherapy and hormone therapy and will meet with an oncologist in 3 weeks time to discuss this and bisphosphonates.

My consultant also informed me that an oncotype dx test was being made available to me to test for genomes/genetic factors in relation to the possible benefits of chemotherapy. I did elect for this to be sent for testing (to a lab in the US) and the results should be available in time for my oncology appointment.

Does anyone have any information about this test?

I had never heard of it until today and I believe it is a very expensive test! Nonetheless, I thought it would be prudent to have it done as I have 2 children in their 20's and like anyone else in my position I want to give myself the best chance of recovery and gather as much information on any risk factors which may affect my youngsters in future.

  • Hello and glad to hear that surgery went well and that DCIS is non invasive so good news.  I have never heard of chemotherapy being given for DCIS so I am curious about why they ordered the oncotype genomic testing.  If you find out please share.
    Take care of yourself.
