So the day finally came for my chemo to start. With a needle phobia and bad veins it didn’t begin too well! I was very disappointed that I decided to not continue with the cold cap. I managed the fDisappointedst half an hour but couldn’t face the length of time I would sit in it. So I’ve now got to make an appointment to look at weeks Disappointed  anyone on here invested in a real hair wig?  And am I right in thinking all I can do with my hair now is a low setting hairdryer and no other tools?
last night was shocking. I felt so bad and never imagined I would feel so awful so quickly. Is this normal?  I thought it was a couple of days afterwards and is this what I should be expecting?

  • Hi there, I'm sorry you had such a tough time yesterday and today. Personally my side effects kicked in a couple of days afterwards, but we are all different. Did they give you anti sickness meds to take?  My advice is to take them whether you feel sick or not, that certainly helped me.

Regarding wigs, most people say that there are excellent synthetic ones around these days so real hair isn't necessary. I used a local company that the hospital recommended and the ladies were fab at helping me choose. I went for a completely different style to my normal hair and I LOVED it.  It was comfortable to wear and so easy to manage, so not the trauma I was expecting at all.   Again, we're all different but I wanted to share.

best wishes as you continue with your treatment and hope you feel better soon.

  • Hi Eden,  so sorry you had a bad day yesterday, but just think you can cross one off.  I had a synthetic wig as lady said real hair wigs are difficult to manage and you had to style them like real hair.  My synthetic one was easy to wash and then just shake when dry and looked as good as new.  I didn't have any side effects on the first night but they gradually built up.  Like Irishgirl said take your sick meds even if you feel you don't need them.  If you feel something is now right phone up your breast care nurse.  Take care and just think one down. Big hugs

  • Thank you for your reply and help

  • Thank you so much. It would be great if the early reaction could be ‘it’ but I very much doubt it!! Disappointed

  • I’m due to start soon Eden, big hugs x
  • Hi Eden,

I am going through a similar situation to you. I stated chemotherapy on 24th July which is last Thursday and I am going through the process where my body feels like it's not mine. I get this pressure on my head like someone is squeezing it constantly and the feeling of a bad hangover Upside down. My emotions are everywhere and my taste is up and down. Not to mention how I feel in the mornings after self injecting at nights. I hope as the treatment continues we will find some form of copingMuscleethods to help us get through it. But remember you are not alone and try not to be hard on yourself. You are doing the best you can this is all new to you and your bbody. Sending you hugs we got thisPrayMuscle

  • Hi there regarding wigs the hospital will help us get one. But if you are looking for human wigs like myself I invest in 2 clueless ones. A pixie cut and a long curly one. I also have straight bob clueless from before breast cancer.  As   said we are all different so we will be facing things differently. Just listen to your body and try and go through the changes with it. I found ginger tea helps with my nausea. Please don't be too hard on yourself hun.

  • Ah thank you. Sorry it’s hard for you too. You must let me know how your journey goes. X

  • I will definitely keep u informed hun. It's hard but i have the faith that I will get through the 8 cycle and fully healed Pray. Keep me posted with your progress as well. We got this hun.
