Node spotted 6 years after clearance

Hi all,

I had my oncology sign off appointment last Thursday, and requested an ultrasound on my left side where surgery was for peace of mind. The svan appointment was on Monday morning,  and she asked how many nodes I'd had removed. I told her I had level 3 clearance and she seemed surprised,  as she found a node in my level one area where there was scar tissue!!

She said it looked normal,  and without knowing it shouldn't be there (it was missed in several u/s scans, two CT scans and an MRI in the the last 6 years) she'd have left it alone. I feel back on the roller-coaster,  as the shape was more rounded ( though she said often in scar tissue they are pulled out of shape) and it has a vein show on the doppler (which is normal). She's taken three fine needle biopsies to make sure,  and when she did them it vanished into the scar tissue (?) on the screen and she took a picture of that too.

I've been unwell these last two weeks with what I consider to be the new strain of covid,  so it might have enlarged because of that?

Has anyone else had a surprise like this before? I thought my surgeon was really good,  but now...?? I have to wait another week or so for the results,  but certainly worried:((  xxx

  • Hi

My own cancer was endometrial but I noticed that you have not yet had a reply to your post and by me doing so it will hopefully bring it to the attention of someone who has been through similar.

I am sorry to hear that the nurse has found an unexpected lymph node and that it is causing you concern. It sounds like you have done what is needed in having the ultrasound and also the biopsies. I can understand how worrying this must feel.

I hope that your results come back quickly and are able to bring some reassurance. In the meantime do give the Support Line a call if talking things through would help. They are there from 8am-8pm daily.
