Hi all

first time posting.

i was referred to the breast unit on 13th February having found a lump. 2 weeks later I was in the clinic had mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy. The mammogram was clear but they could feel a lump. Consultant said I don’t know why they are doing a biopsy. She fully expected it to be clear. 2 weeks later and a positive biopsy was sent for a scan. Long and short I had a second area in the breast that was a node. My mastectomy and node biopsy was not done till 19th may.
12 days ago I was called in for result and treatment plan. Of the 4 nodes they removed during surgery 3 were positive for cancer. I now need a node clearance but I still don’t have a date for this. I’m so stressed by all the waiting my first op was well out of the 62 days. I left a message for the breast care nurse but no response. The consultant who is nice said I’d hear in a few days. Is there some kind of timescale. Should I be pushing or just try and chill. I lie awake all night feeling the cancer running riot

my lump was a grade 3 idc pr+ es+ her2 - no clue on stage yet

thanks for taking time to read

  • Hi Suzie

    It's all waiting isn't it!
Your BCN is there for you to ask questions of and to follow things up with. If she doesn't respond at first, keep calling until you do get to speak to her. I found that emailing mine was a good way to get through to her. Does anybody answer the 'phone in the BC nurses office? If yes and your nurse doesn't get back to you after leaving a message ring again and ask to speak to the team leader and tell her that the lack of support is making you very anxious.
The other option, and I did this in my early days, is ring your Consultant's PA and ask if she can chase up your appointment date.
I have learned that if you don't keep following up and advocating for yourself then things can just fall through the net. Pick up the 'phone again tomorrow and find out what is going on.
    Best of luck
    Kathy

  • Thanks so much Kathy I don’t want to be a pain. I just get answer machine for the breast care nurses but no one every responds back. I’ll call again tomorrow xxx
