Hi there’s a 6 week waiting list in NI for assessment- does anyone know a way around this and if the answer is private can anyone tell me the costs and who is best to go to?

  • Hi Paula773 welcome to the forum..I always understood that the wait to see someone if breast cancer was suspected was 2 weeks. It may be different across the UK but I'm not sure. I don't know a lot about the private sector but I'm wondering if you wanted to give the Maacmillan Line a call as they may be able to offer information and advice gor you re this

  • Hi - I’m in Scotland and in April found a lump / my gp surgery advised 4-5 weeks for nhs urgent referral - I basically chose to do diagnostics privately (I don’t have private insurance) via circle group, Ross hall hospital Glasgow - not sure if circle cover NI? I was seen in 3 days, had multiple mammograms & ultrasound and consultant assessment - they were absolutely amazing & liased directly with nhs consultant to have me transferred back to nhs for biopsy - the total for mammogram, ultrasound & consultant was around £1000 - I was ready to pay for the biopsy (out of anxiety) but advised it was about £3500 and strongly encouraged to go back to nhs - no pressure at all to stay private - I was seen the following week by nhs consultant & had biopsy - cancer confirmed - I do hear of others being seen within the 2 week period but unfortunately not the case where I am - going private for the initial diagnostics & having consultants liase directly definitely sped up the process for me - had biopsy & results, an MRI (I have mixed ductal lobular BC) & mastectomy completed within time initially quoted for screening so for me worth it xxx

  • Hi, I was lucky and was seen 8 days after going to my GP as per the 2 week timescale for suspected cancer. I'm in northern England
