Hello there, I have recently had a lumpectomy for high grade DCIS (left side). The histology showed 10mm with clear margins. I am moving forward to radiotherapy now. They say whole breast radiotherapy (40 GRAY)) for five days using breath holding technique. I have read some recent research papers that suggest partial breast radiotherapy, for high grade DCIS, can be as effective. My question is has anyone had / been offered partial breast radiotherapy in similar circumstances? Thank you so much.
Hello Mandy01,
I have done research and whole breast radiation is recommended over partial for DCIS. I had DCIS low and intermediate grade in one breast and stage 1 invasive in my left breast. I hade Whole breast radiation to both and I had discussed partial breast radiation with the radiologist but he said that my breasts were small and not appropriate for me as even partial would be whole on me. With high grade DCIS which has a higher chance for reoccurrence they want to radiate the whole breast. Take care and I didn’t mind radiation like I thought I would. Had my radiation in 2022 and doing well. I think am on hormone blockers but that is a different thing. Hugs to you.
