My mom has been on Capecitabine for the last 18 months and her treatment has kept her lung cancer that started off with TNBC in 2020 at bay. This week we were told this drug in no longer working and one of the options is Carboplatin, my mom is terrified of loosing her hair again (lost it with her initial chemo in 2020) I was wondering how common this side effect is and how people coped generally on this drug.
any advice would be greatly appreciated xx
HiAngelBear sorry to hear that your mum's current treatment is no longer working well, that must be difficult to deal with. I had carboplatin, but in combination with other drugs, so hard to know which one exactly caused my hair loss, as I did lose my hair.
I found this Link to Macmillan on the Macmillan website and it does sound a little more promising that perhaps your mum's hair will thin, rather than be completely lost. It's such a visible side effect, I can understand that this is very emotional.
Don't forget, the lovely folks at Macmillan are also at the end of the phone if you or your mum want to chat anything through. The number is 0800 808 0000. Best wishes
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply, I will definitely look at the info xx
