Hi, I have DCIS in my left breast, and it's all contained. I had a couple of lymph nodes removed and there is no cancer there. After 3 lumpectomies I still haven’t got clear margins. I’m considering to have a mastectomy with reconstruction all in one go. As I read about possible complications with implants I get more scared. Has anyone had the single mastectomy with implants? What was your experience? Thanks a lot.

I have DCIS any had surgery last week. Its my fear is that the margins won’t be clear and I‘ll need surgery again. I don’t want to go through multiple surgeries and have to face radiotherapy on top. I just want this nightmare to end. So if the margins aren’t clear I might consider mastectomy with an implant and skip radiotherapy because I want this to end and not go on and on.
what was the time between the surgeries you had? I’m just wondering how one can get surgery so soon any if you need another mammogram or mri to target the areas when the stitches are still raw.
Hi, I am so sorry to hear what you’re going through. I experienced similar feelings. I had roughly a month and a half in between the 3 surgeries I’ve had so far. When will you get the pathology results? I didn’t have any mammograms or scans in between. Based on the results they offered me options. I wasn’t lucky with my healing process either so this time I asked the doctor to leave 2 months for my body to heal. My skin is full of rashes and super sensitive after so many dressings. In my case I have pre-invasive cells and it’s all contained so she said it was ok to wait a bit as I am not expected to get radiotherapy,- only pills. I will keep my fingers crossed for you, I hope you get clear margins and can get on with your life.
I‘m sorry to hear that, I can only imagine the irritation you must have suffered. I‘ve only had the surgery once but on both breasts. The good one was reduced to meet the new size of the DCIS one. Initially, before I decided to go with a partial mastectomy, I did consider full mastectomy with an silicon implant and spoke to a couple of people who had it done. They said it felt like it was there but not actually part of them but didn’t experience any issues. Some said it gets cold when the weather changes. I would suggest going for a teardrop shaped implant instead of a round one so it looks more natural. Today’s silicon implants are pretty sturdy and advanced as to how it was 20 years ago.
Of course with age the silicon breast won’t drop but the natural one will so perhaps consider a lift so it‘ll give you another ten years before it starts to droop.
