Prominent lymph gland

I was diagnosed with breast cancer 3 years ago and at the time had a lumpectomy, lymph nodes removed from my armpit, radiotherapy and am taking Letrozole for 5 years. At the time I was told that the removal of my tumour had clear margins and there was no evidence of spread to the lymph nodes.

Last week I had my usual annual mammogram and it revealed a prominent lymph node in my armpit. I subsequently had an ultrasound scan and informed that there was nothing to worry about- they will see me again next year.

I wish I had asked more questions- has anyone else had prominent lymph nodes and if so, why? Is this to compensate for the lymph nodes that have been removed? I still get a lot of discomfort post surgery- is this normal 3 years later? I feel convinced that I can feel something in my armpit even though my consultant told me that all was fine. I guess I will always be worried that my cancer will come back.

I'm Daisy53 one of the Community Champions on this forum.  The fear of cancer coming back is always there in the background even if you don't think about it too much.  As they are the experts they know what they are talking about.  It might be a good idea to ring your breast care nurse to have a chat about your concerns as they should be able to put your mind at rest.
