Radiotherapy burning- home made treatment; here's the recipe

Hello all,

I had 15 radiotherapy sessions over three weeks, and on the last day the radiographers told me the side effects would be coming out over the next month, so to keep up with the moisturising.

I didn't realise just how painful the burning sensations would be. My skin is hot, extremely red, and feels like it's burning- it's very angry. It isn't broken which is a small mercy.

Obviously I keep moisturising, but this doesn't alleviate the burning or heat. I was desperate.

I thought back to when I was little and my Mum would use Epsom salts in water to bathe wounds. Conveniently I have pharmaceutical grade Epsom salts anyway, (using them on my roses) and I also have pink Himalayan rock salts. So I ordered a roll of cotton wool.

In a clean jar I filled it half full with the salts mixing them evenly, and topped it up with boiled water.

I poured the liquid over the roll of cotton wool. On the sofa, top off, watching telly, I applied the poultice for about an hour.

Sheer bliss. Honestly. No pain, it cooled my skin right down, no burning, and remained this way.

Interestingly when I moisturised before bed and this morning the burning sensation returned, so I will apply the poultice mid day for relief.

You can google the benefits of the salts for yourself, but I hope this god send of a simple recipe helps those who are also in pain.

Best wishes x
