Hi everyone
i have benn diagnosed with breast cancer stage 2
I will start chemotherapy end of this week I have to decide whether to have a port or picc
Im not sure what to do .
Go for a port if they will do it. Whilst it’s a more invasive procedure to fit, once it’s healed it’s no trouble. You can get it wet so can swim if you want, and no faff in keeping it dry in the shower. You can run and lift weights. No dangly bits or dressings. If not being used for treatment it only needs flushing once a month.
I have had one since May 22. Initially for adjuvant chemo (because I wanted to stay active). Came into its own when I discovered, before completing the treatment, that my cancer had spread and so I needed a lot more treatment. It’s not currently needed as I am in remission but I have kept it because more treatment is possible in the future. The monthly flush is keeping it in perfect working order.
