Good morning everyone.
yesterday I had a consultation with my oncologist and found out what is happening next. I will have 15 days radiotherapy which I felt it was good news. No chemotherapy!!! And also prescribed Letrozole to prevent breast cancer cells to spread to other parts of the body.
Today I am starting to take this pill once a day for the next 10 years!!!!
I am trying to accept this new little ‘friend’ which is becoming part of my life for a long time!!!
I wonder if any of you can share both your experiences with Letrozole and/or radiotherapy.
Is Aloa vera good to use as a moisturiser? And can you suggest a reliable make?
Thank you.
I've been on letrazole for over 4 months and have minimal side effects some of which may be due to the herceptin. They mostly affect my nails and hair and dry skin. I had a few symptoms in the first 3 months, but they wore off, sorry I can't remember what they were, DOH
Fingers crossed you won't get any significant side effects. Good luck.
I think we are on the same pathway. I’m 18 days post lumpectomy with 5 sessions of radiotherapy planned (meet oncologist on Wed). I’m due to pick up my Letrozole prescription tomorrow. Was slightly worried about the menopause symptoms and joint pain but seems to be managed with exercise so happy with that. What about the osteoporosis risk?
Hi.
I was in the same position as you last year - radiotherapy and hormone therapy. I had 5 sessions of radiotherapy and it was ok apart from the room was cold because of the machines. I had some blisters under my boob but they gave me gels and creams to make it better.
I've been on Letrozole for 9 months and persevered until now but some of the side effects have progressively got worse - flushes are less and the effect on my appetite has lessened but the fatigue and joint pain have been awful. I've had another CT scan and x-rays to check from my neck to pelvis and for arthritis in my knees but all this started after starting on Letrozole. I'm seeing the oncologist on Tuesday to discuss changing to a different hormone therapy. I hope you're doing well with it.
I started with Aveeno moisturiser but then had a free sample of Moo Goo Skin restore udder cream from the charity Little Lifts, who give out boxes to make you feel better when undergoing treatment, and it's lovely. No smell and sinks in really well. It's not cheap but the big bottle lasts about 3 months, using it twice a day.
All the best for your treatment and afterwards. x
Hi, I was diagnosed in June 2023. Had two lumpectomies, then 5 days radiotherapy and have been taking Letrozole and Aledronic acid tablets, to help with Osteoporosis, for 14 months now. I found the radiotherapy was fine, had a little bit of redness, but used plenty of Aloe Vera and Aveeno moisturiser which helped a lot. The Moo Goo moisturiser is great as well. I still use that. The side effects from the Letrozole have been manageable. I had hot flushes for about 4 months which are now on and off, but not too bad. The joint pains are probably the worst bit. I get aches in my hands, hips and neck. I just take paracetamol if it gets too bad. I am on Letrozole for 5 years. But if it helps keep it from returning, then I do not mind a few side effects. I wish you well with the radiotherapy and the hormone therapy.
