Hi all,

I have triple negative breast cancer, had my port fitted today and am starting chemo tomorrow- having PC and immunotherapy with Pembro?

I’m really worried about possible allergic reactions and side effects. Also still worried about headaches etc with cold cap.

Can anyone give advice/calm me down?!

Thanks in advance,

Keely

  • Hi there my daughter was diagnosed with triple neg breast cancer this time last year first she had chemo. Side effects where not as bad as I thought she was very tired feeling sick I looked after her young children as her husband had to work out motto was ear drink recover she felt very poorly that’s what we expected I just kept pushing fluids and food rest very important. She said the cold cap was torture but worth it she kept her hair she then had surgery that was ok she is now on radiation her last part of the journey and what a journey. Take anti sickness meds as soon as. Accept all help offered I wish you all the very best

  • Morning Keely

I also have TNBC and on Friday I will have my 4th of 12 weekly infusions.  I did have a reaction to Paclitaxel the first time but now on Abraxane and I'm fine.  I've had mild side effects tingling of fingertips and toes.  Tingling tongue and funny taste which only seem to last a couple of days.  Aside from that I'm feeling ok so far.  After thisv12 weeks I change to EC every 3 weeks for 12 weeks.  Then a lumpectomy followed by 6 weekly treatments x 5.  It's going to be a long year of treatment but important thing is stays focused, get some exercise, eat and sleep well and you will be fine.  Good luck and be kind to yourself xx

  • Thank you for taking the time to respond. I’m glad you are managing well so far! Fingers crossed I will be the same. I am having the same treatment plan as you but most likely mastectomy due to the size of the tumour in my breast.

I’m here now 45 minutes early! Sat in the chair stressing!

Trying the cold cap but very worried about it as heard horror stories about pain and headaches!

Good luck with the rest of your journey.

  • I had my first chemo last week and despite a small reaction the nurses were absolutely wonderful and so reassuring x

I know my own anxiety is awful so I do empathise x I have some diazepam to keep me calm for this week x

    best wishes

  • Hi

Hope all went well.  First one ticked off.  Take each week as it comes and try not to feel anxious x

  • Hi TreeMary

I’m having surgery for major bowel cancer next week and with everything that’s happened in the last few weeks my anxiety has being really severe. My doctor is very awkward when prescribing diazepam and is refusing to give me anymore. I got given 3 yesterday and they’ve gone already . Did you find it easy to get your diazepam? My medical team are all in agreement I need something to calm me but GP being hesitant. I suffer from seizures which come on from stress and already had 3 since diagnosis. I only need it til next Tuesday so no reason for me to become addictive.

any tips would be much appreciated!

I also send so much strength you let way for your chemo.

  • Hi,

sorry I’ve not actually had any medication for anxiety so can’t really comment on that but I know a lot of people seem to say diazepam helps.

Good luck with your treatment and hope you feel more relaxed soon!

    Best of luck!

    Keely
