Hi

I was wondering if anyone here has had any better results from side effects by switching from Letrozole to Anastrozole.

im currently on Letrozole and have been for 7 weeks now but I’m really suffering with painful stiffness fingers, hip and knee joints. By mid morning they have loosened up bit and not as painful but still quite stiff. I’m also now having hot flushes that I never had prior to taking which is keeping me up at night

My oncologist has suggested going over to Anastrozole but wondered if anyone had felt better after switching or if the side effects subsided.

im just scared that if I switch I’m going to make things worse for myself.

I would love to hear other peoples experiences Blush

  • I had same problem with anastrozole.  I'm much better on exemestane

  • I’ve been on letrozole for 2 months get the flushes that’s all so far my oncologist said it takes 3 months for the side affect to peak the it should wane off if not changing the brand sometimes helps are you on the same brand I’m on accord you can also get something from your GP for the flushes which is common when blocking estrogen not hormone treatment obviously either way blocking estrogen will have an effect but changing might be better if it’s bad you can always switch again it’s early days until your body adjusts also if your on statins as well it could be changing them will help x

  • I too was on Letrazole started in May .I had many hot flushes and my  arthritic knees were much worse and very stiff  in the morning. The oncologist gave me a month's break in September  and I started exestamine .I have few hot flushes now and am less stiff and  feel better on this .Still have the arthritic knees I'm 79 but as they were pre Letrazole.

  • I changed from Letrozole to Exemestane, Aromasin brand. I am 4 years on. Far from perfect but definitely better. Good luck.xxx

  • I have been on letrazole for nearly an year and had similar issues with joints - raised it with my breast clinic - the endocrine specialist nurse suggested I take evening primrose oil supplements - it has really helped me - I still get hot flushes and occasional pain in joints but I exercise and do squats - lift weights and much better now- perhaps speak to your breast clinic to seek solutions that work for your body

  • I’ve been taking Letrazole since January 24 and my aches and pains have now subsided apart from my thumbs and fingers. My hot flushes are quite rubbish and I don’t sleep well.
Im also worried to change in case it gets worse lol.
